1. Consistently Generate Five-Star Reviews 🌟
Your Google Business Profile reviews are critical to your success. Not only do they help improve your rankings, but they also make you the clear, obvious choice compared to other top-rated competitors in your area.
Ask yourself:
- How many reviews did you get last month?
- Do you have a solid process for asking for reviews after every single successful project?
Clients who actively and consistently gather reviews not only see higher rankings but also attract more customers who are ready to book with them. Don’t let this simple step hold you back!
2. Provide Photos for Your Website 📸
Photos make a huge difference in how your business is perceived online. If you haven’t already, please send the following:
- A personal, family, or business photo of yourself to use in the “About” section.
- A photo of you and/or your team in front of your work vehicle (truck, van, truck/trailer, etc.).
This helps potential customers connect with the “people” behind the business and builds trust.
Here’s are a few examples:
You don’t have to send everything all at once, but make it a habit to share on-the-job photos to slowly replace stock images on your site. One step at a time!
When you send photos, let us know where you’d like them to go on your site. For example, if you send in a drywall repair photo, you can ask us to place that photo under the drywall service section or on the homepage. This ensures your site reflects the specific services you want to showcase.

3. Submit Project Posts Every Month ✍️
If your plan includes SEO, submitting regular project posts is non-negotiable. These posts contain keywords that dramatically improve your rankings over time.
Are you getting your reminders? If not, please email us at support@handymanmarketingpros.com.
We’ve seen time and time again that clients who submit these posts consistently see better rankings and more traffic. 🚀 Those who skip this step often fall behind.
Tips for Submitting Project Posts 🚀
Submitting regular project posts is one of the best ways to improve your Google rankings, attract the right clients, and build your online presence. Here are some tips to get the most out of your submissions:
1. Submit Projects You Want More Of
Focus on the types of projects you want to attract. For example:
- If you want more ceiling fan inquiries, submit projects about replacing and installing ceiling fans
- If you want more bathroom remodels, submit your best bathroom remodeling projects
- If you want more dryer vent cleanings, submit your best dryer cleaning project
This isn’t an overnight change, but over-time, we’ll be able to build rankings for more specific, service-related keywords. This will ultimately start bringing more inquiries for these kinds of projects.
2. Target Specific Areas
If you want more jobs in high-income neighborhoods or certain communities, submit posts with those areas in mind. When the submission form asks for the location, enter the name of the area you’d like to work in—even if you didn’t complete the project there. On your website, we can optimize it to reflect that area, which helps boost traffic and estimate requests from that town and/or neighborhood.
3. Submit in Bulk
Many of our clients, especially after developing solid traction, are busy folks! It can be hard to dedicate time each month to submit projects to us.
Instead of submitting one or two posts each month, you can save time by submitting a whole bunch at once! We’ll spread them out for you over the next few months, so your site stays active and updated without extra effort on your part.
4. Include a YouTube Video Walk-Through 🎥
Adding a video walk-through of your project can give your posts an extra boost. Since YouTube is the world’s 2nd biggest search engine (1st is Google, and of course, YouTube is owned by Google 😅), embedding these videos in your project posts can improve your Google rankings. Even a short, simple video showcasing your work can make a big difference!
Jason’s Quick Take: spending 5 mins to film a quick walkthrough video (it doesn’t have to be a Hollywood production!), and uploading to YouTube directly from your phone, is one of the highest ROI marketing time you can spend as a busy handyman!
5. Connect Google Reviews to Your Posts 🌟
If your client left you a glowing Google review for the project, include it in your post! Highlighting these reviews not only builds trust but also strengthens the connection between your Google Business Profile and your website.
6. don't overthink the description
Don’t get hung up on writing a detailed summary of the project. Write a quick sentence or two, enough to give a general overview of the work completed, and our team will do heavy-lifting.
We know the focus keywords and best ways to optimize the posts, so give us the quick summary and leave the complex stuff to us!

Facebook Community Groups
Engaging and posting in your local FB community groups is the best, organic way to generate leads from social media. A few key benefits:
- It's free!
- Most community groups allow businesses to post once per week (be sure to check specific rules per group)
- Depending on the size of your market, there can be a range of 2-10+ available groups
- You can share one post to all groups at once, so it's a low time-investment marketing strategy
- For most, your posts will get more reach in these groups than posting to your page
- The members of these groups are locals living in your service area

Networking
Not the best website, SEO, or advertising can beat the power of a SMILE and a HANDSHAKE! 😀
Networking in your local Chamber Of Commerce, Realtor Association, BNI, and similar groups, can be a game-changer for your business. With consistency and time, you’ll establish yourself as the “local hometown handyman” and drastically boost your word-of-mouth referrals.
Pro tip 1: Typically these groups have a “business directory” on their website. Be sure to complete those profiles with your website link. This is great for SEO.
Pro tip 2: Sponsoring a lunch once or twice a year is a fantastic way to generate interest in your business. A friend of mine owns a window cleaning company, and brings breakfast twice a year to the local Realtor Association meeting. It generates a ton of business for him, and also establishes key referral relationships.
Build a strong referral network
When the quality of your service and work shines 🌞 and you surround that quality with effective print marketing, you will naturally build a strong referral network.
Every house you walk into, you should have something to physically hand to the client.
- At a minimum, a business card.
- At a maximum, a professional packet that outlines the selling points and value of your business, your insurance, about your company, reviews, etc.
- Somewhere in the middle, a professional brochure that highlights your focus services in a personal, professional way.
“Earn the right to be referred” and then surround that quality with effective marketing! By doing these things, you are reducing the friction for clients to refer you. (You want to make it as easy as possible!) Over-time, like networking, you will significantly boost your online and offline referrals.
Establish relationships with property professionals
Creating relationships with other professional businesses in the real estate industry can be ROCKET FUEL 🚀 to your business!
Examples: property management companies, real estate offices, home service companies, general contractors, your local lumber yard
This is best done with INTENTION! Don’t half-bake your attempts. Stop by their office with some cookies, your business card, and a brochure. Send them an email, letter, and give them a call to follow-up. Truly make an effort to establish a fruitful relationship. Many of the examples I listed are desperate for, at a minimum, a reliable referral for their clients.
Remember! Like homeowners, 10-20% will be “ideal clients” so don’t be discouraged if you get resistance on your pricing or even your general strategy. Dust off your boots and head into the next office!
